Keynote Speaker
- 18th Prime Minister of Canada
The Right Honorable Brian Mulroney
Zanetti Room
6:50am

It is a
distinct honor for Noble Financial Capital Markets to welcome the 18th
Prime Minister of Canada to address our conference and bring a
decidedly international take on the US Presidential Election. As
Canada’s head of state through the Reagan years and the transition
of the White House to George H. Bush and again to Bill Clinton, Mr.
Mulroney offers a unique perspective and insight on international
politics and foreign relations. As Prime Minister for close to a
decade, he significantly furthered his country’s global trade
relationships. Together with the late President Ronald Reagan, he
pioneered the first Canada-US Free Trade Agreement and ultimately
the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Domestically, his
Progressive Conservative government introduced a series of
privatizations, a low inflation policy, historic tax reform,
extensive deregulation and expenditure reduction policies that
continue to be the foundation of Canada’s impressive economic
performance today.

Commodities and Financials in Un-chartered Waters;
What’s Ahead and How to Position Your Company
The real estate
market is reflecting one of the worse environments since the
Great Depression, with home prices down 14.1% in the first
quarter 2008 versus the 10.2% drop in 1932. The financial
markets are in crises, with large banks in free fall and even a
prominent brokerage firm falling victim. The S&P Financial
Services Index is down a whopping 37.6% since the beginning of
the year and 56% from its highs in mid February 2007. There are
persistent inflation pressures, with oil hitting as high as $149
a barrel, up over 80% at one point from year earlier levels.
That’s looking
in the rear view mirror. So, what’s ahead? Where does the stock
market, the economy go from here? How should you manage your
business in the challenging economic headwinds? What is the
appropriate financial structure for businesses? Over levered?
What do you do in tight credit markets?
This panel is
expected to provide guidance on 1) what to expect from the
economy and the financial markets, 2) how you should prepare,
and 3) where you should turn for help. The panel includes:

recovery in the general stock market typically has not happened
without a recovery in the Financial stocks. Mr. Diana is Noble’s
25-year, veteran senior financial services analyst. He is among
the few on the Street that has been through several cycles,
including the real estate depression of the late 1980s, tight
credit markets in the 1990s, the Savings & Loan Crisis, the
restrictions on highly leveraged transactions, and the subprime
mortgage blowup in the late 1990s.
Mr. Diana has 9 years
experience as an investment banker and 16 years as an equity
research analyst. He started his career on the investment
